Cafe Del Mar Sydney
The iconic Café del Mar first opened its doors during the Spanish summer of 1980 on the Isle of Ibiza, Spain. 4 years older than I am, this European hot spot is renowned for its summer sunset sessions and incredibly curated music compilations that I’ve been listening to since discovering them when I was in the 9th grade.
Last week, Kevin and I were invited to celebrate the birthday of my boss and close friend David Mannah. We gathered at Sydney’s Café Del Mar with friends and colleagues and spent hours eating, drinking and celebrating. It was that night that it dawned on me that I had never shared some of the work I have done for this brilliant establishment. So in honour of #ThrowbackThursday, here goes!
In late 2013, Shayben and I teamed up to work on a collection of images that would be used to introduce press and patrons to the highly anticipated opening of Café del Mar Sydney. I took care of the styling while Shayben snapped away. We both had the opportunity to get to know the crew including Head Chef Ben Fitton. Yes, this did mean that we got to sample these dishes as they were being prepared. And yes, they were incredible.
Along with a brilliant menu that’s perfect for those of us that love to share, what I love about Café Del Mar is that it’s a perfect spot for a cheeky afternoon drink. The outdoor terrace overlooks Darling Harbour, while the interior has been meticulously decorated to combine the Spanish heritage of Café Del Mar while embracing the relaxed Australian restaurant culture. With its high ceilings and plush seating, it’s hard not to get caught up in your surrounds when it’s this good.
