The Woolloomooloo Weekender
There’s nothing I love more than packing a bag and hitting the road to experience distant places. For me, this usually involves crazy hours of research, saving, and to-do lists that take over my life in the lead up to the day I leave. As arduous as it can be, traveling with Xavier is most definitely my favourite thing to do. But if there’s one thing I’ve come to appreciate since becoming a mum, it’s the good old staycation. Last month, we were invited to spend a weekend in iconic Woolloomooloo by the good people of Nesuto Apartment Hotels. I made plans for this stay to coincide with one of my closest friend’s birthday and went about planning a fun filled weekend for all of us! Think baking, long walks, shopping, eating, and DIY hotel pampering.

Spoilt with space, views and location
Let me start this by saying, our apartment was huge and I felt very spoilt! Nesuto Woolloomooloo Sydney Apartments offers a range of spacious self-contained accommodation including studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments in different styles and layouts. The biggest plus for me was having a kitchen to prep Xavier’s meals in, and the added bonus of having an oven to bake birthday desserts for Rosie. Our apartment had two big bedrooms, two bathrooms and the cutest little study nook. The living area was so spacious and gave perfect way to the stunning view of Sydney just outside our balcony. In terms of getting out and about, I’m a lover of walking so the location suited me well. We parked the car at the hotel and didn’t need it again until it was time to leave 3 days later. We walked to the city via the Domain, though I should mention it’s worth mapping out an accessible route if you’re traveling with a stroller.
Lunching at China Doll
I made this booking for just Rosie and I while having Xavier looked after by his favourite Nanny, Miss Gabbi. (Oh the beauty of still being in the same city as your fav sitter while on ‘vacay’). We celebrated Rosie’s birthday with one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a long time. The banquet menu for two at China Doll is definitely one to remember if you’re planning to spend time in this neck of the woods. It barely took a couple of minutes to walk there from Nesuto.
City strolls and sight seeing
I’ve always loved living in Sydney. I love our beaches, our restaurants and cafes, I cant get enough of the harbour and can walk circles around town till my legs feel like jelly. Sure, it has its grey moments like any other big city, but whenever I have friends visiting from out of town, I show this place off like it’s my trophy husband. I’m quick to forget how much this city awakens me, and just how much it feels like home.
Unwind, relax and take in the view
The apartment we stayed in while at Nesuto had one of the best views of Sydney I’ve ever experienced. The distance from the city felt like we had taken one giant step back from a beautiful picture just to take it all in. One of the nicest things about staying in Woolloomooloo is that relaxed village vibe, while still being close enough to walk to the centre of it . With excellent cafes and restaurants within walking distance, you don’t really have to go too far for a great experience.
The quintessential Harry’s Pie
Harry’s Cafe De Wheels is an institution and culinary icon for all Australians and is not to be missed. (The original location is across the street from Nesuto. Get there. Nothing more to say).
